Back in 2006, the world-famous Catskills Game Farm closed down. Now, visitors can come and enjoy a campsite in a paradisaical location for some of the best camping in New York. With access to over 25 miles of hiking/mountain biking trails, it is a nature lover’s delight.

Take a refreshing dip at one of the many swimming holes and waterfalls that you can find in the area. As part of the old Zoo, there are 3.5 miles of paved walking trails as well.

2. Waterfall Paradise: Unique Camping in New York

How about falling asleep to the splashing sounds of a waterfall and the gentle lull of a babbling brook? That’s what you’ll enjoy at the Waterfall Paradise campsite. It’s easy to get to (although it’s tricky in the dark so arrive early) with parking on-site.

The site is near the Mongaup River hiking trail. Amateur and seasoned fishermen alike will be overjoyed at the incredible fishing the area offers. Let the host know you want to try out the fishing and they will leave a set of poles and tackle box handy.

The best part about this spot, however, is the thermal spring bath. Heated by a wood-burning stove, it is perfectly sized for four people right next to the waterfall.

3. Starlight Starbright

Stay warm and snug in this tent with a wood stove included in the price. It is located in 40 acres of rolling meadows with a year-round creek just a few minutes’ walk from the site. Bring a kayak or a fishing pole to enjoy some time on the water. When it’s warm enough, don’t hesitate to go for a swim!

A rail trail provides a beautiful and easy walking trail so you can get out in nature and just breathe in the tranquility.

The site feels very much out in the middle of nowhere. However, there are various farm-to-table restaurants, breweries, waterfalls, and other activities nearby. Pets are welcome.

4. Camp Anulyfe

Combine the tranquility of nature with rejuvenating spa and restorative healing at Camp Anulyfe. Butting up to 105 acres of conservatory land, guests can rent a pair of mountain bikes from the host and head out to immerse yourself in nature. While there aren’t trails per se, you can explore the mountain and find some gorgeous lookouts. Keep an eye out for eagles, wild turkeys, and deer as they are all commonly spotted.

Opt for an organic breakfast from our hosts and enjoy a variety of local restaurants just a short 10-minute drive from the property. The Hurley Marbletown Trailhead is a mere 6 minutes away by car and offers a beautiful place to go hiking.

At night let your breath be taken away by the gorgeous display of stars. If you’re coming from the city you may have forgotten (or never known) that the stars can look like this.

Complement your stay with a restorative healing session. This can involve craniosacral therapy, shamanic spiritual healing, and more. Finish off your session with an infrared Himalayan salt sauna. 5. Poet’s Skyrock Organic Farm

Enjoy the stars at night at this campsite set up in a little rocky clearing. It is located on a certified organic farm where they grow microgreens and jewel shiitake mushrooms. You can also take organic and permaculture farm tours in the area.

Please note that there are beehives on the property. Honeybees are generally not aggressive as long as they are left alone. For safety’s sake, the host asks that people who are allergic to bees not book with them.

Nearby, guests can enjoy fly fishing, hiking, swimming, and a trip to the spa. There are also various nearby restaurants to choose from. Children and pets are both welcome at this campsite.
