Wisconsin winters usually hit fast and hard. And as it’s the end of September, the time to get outside before the snow falls is coming to an end. That’s why we’ve put together a list of four great camping spots to see this fall. Most of these spots are “fully-equipped” Tentrr sites, which ensures your camping getaway will be easy and comfortable—even as temperatures start to drop. So, treat yourself while you still can, go camping the Tentrr way and spend your days exploring the wilds of Wisconsin’s meadows, forests, and famous waterways.
1. The Scorpio
First off, is this stunning campsite on a 100-acre family farm. You’ll have a canvas or dome tent at your disposal, hot showers, a queen bed, and updates on all local weather changes. At $100 a night in total, you’ll get a plush glamping experience that also includes a fire pit, barbeque, wood stove, and much more. Plus, the city of Green Bay is nearby, making it an easy trip to stock up on supplies or indulge in some non-camping related entertainment and dining.
For a small fee, the Scorpio staff will supply you with firewood. And as you probably assumed, this site also comes with all the usual camp amenities too: drinking water, garbage service, and even your own private bathroom. And at the end of the night you can kick your feet up and enjoy the dark, starry skies stretching out above the open prairie.
2. Meadow’s Edge Campground
The second option on our list goes to Meadow’s Edge Campground, located at Two Chairs Farm. This camping spot is another one of our “signature” sites. It’s secluded setting and wide range of included amenities will ensure you have a relaxing and rejuvenating stay. You’ll find a roomy canvas tent already set up and waiting for you, plus everything you need to do some killer outdoor cooking.
Guests also get access to the sprawling property, which includes meadows for roaming, berry bushes for picking fruit, and plenty of wild mushrooms for gathering. The hosts offer an incredibly reasonable “horse” session for just $10 (see campsite page for more details). Your own horses and dogs are welcome, too. You’ll be in the wilderness, so the chances of spotting fox, deer, or other critters are high. Bears also roam this open country. So, keep your eyes peeled!
3. Hurrah Lake - Lakeside Campsite
Our third pick is this picturesque lakeside campsite, located at the Northern Highland American Legion (NHAL) State Forest. Visitors to this location will find themselves with 40 acres to explore, right next to Hurrah Lake. The campsite itself comes equipped with a canvas tent built on a raised platform, a queen size bed, and outdoor cooking gear provided. This beautiful destination offers endless opportunities for lake recreation (including paddleboard rentals for $35), trails for hiking or mountain biking, and much more. So, remember to bring along your mountain bike, kayak, or canoe for an activity-filled stay. The Hurrah Lake sites, like this one, have water views and are a bit pricier than some of the other options. But if you’re looking for a true glamping getaway, this spot is well worth the price.
4. Peace Camp at Purplehaze Acres
And last on the list is this terrific group site at Peace Camp. Conveniently located less than one hour from Milwaukee, this 14-person camping area is a bargain at just $12 per person, per night. Living up to its name, this is an exceptionally quiet and peaceful campsite, located off the beaten path and away from any large groups of RVs or cars.
Peace Camp accommodates pets of all kinds, has potable water, and includes picnic tables, a firepit, and firewood. The setting is quite large so there is plenty of room for 14 campers, and potentially, even enough room for 14 individual tents. Kick back and feel the peaceful vibes. Or wander the surrounding property where you’ll find a stream, expansive views, and green meadows, all within a short distance from your site. Plus, there is a local farmer’s market nearby where you can resupply or grab some fresh ingredients to cook back at camp.
