If you’ve never gone camping in Vermont, then you’re in for quite a treat. Although this state is nicknamed the Green Mountain State for the color of the rock found in the bellies of its mountains, it is also quite green in other ways, like forest carpeting.

Vermont is one of the most forested states in the nation, coming in third behind New Hampshire and Maine. If you fancy immersing yourself in the forests, lakes, and mountains of the Green Mountains, here are four excellent Vermont campsites to get you started.

1. The Perch

Nestled in among beautiful fields only seven minutes away from the quaint village of Woodstock is one of Tentrr’s signature sites. With on-site parking and breathtaking long-range views, this site features some incredible sunset vistas across the meadows as the sun dips below the mountains.

If you’re up to exploring “the prettiest little town in Vermont,” you can explore the nooks and crannies of this adorable village, vintage shopping at Who Is Sylvia or grabbing an apple cider donut at the Woodstock General Store.

You can also visit the Quechee Gorge or the Green Mountain Horse Association for equestrians. If you’re looking for a more rural experience, you can milk a cow and churn some butter at the Historic Billings Farm.

2. Moonlight Meadow

This aptly-named site sits on the edge of a meadow backed by deep green forests. Nestled among 220 acres, it includes a large pond for fishing, kayaking, or just relaxing on the dock. There are numerous hiking paths and bike paths throughout the property and adjoining neighborhoods.

For supplies, you can stop by South Royalton for the co-op grocery store. Montpelier, Vermont – the state capital – and Hanover, New Hampshire, are an easy driving distance away and draw year-round visitors to their restaurants and cultural institutions.

3. A Slice of Heaven

The ultimate Vermont experience, this Tentrr campsite sits on the end of a long dirt road and was selected explicitly by the Tentrr staff as a signature site.

Ten acres of wilderness affords this campsite 180˚ view of the beautiful, craggy White Mountains in New Hampshire. A Slice of Heaven is located near Thetford, Vermont - only two-and-a-half hours from Boston and four from New York City. At night, you can enjoy stunning displays of meteor showers and constellations in the velvet darkness.

Hike the forest trails or jump in the local swimming holes when the season is right. If you’re looking for a different type of activity, King Arthur Flour is only fifteen minutes away and offers an array of baking and cooking classes.

4. Belle Vista Farm

Nothing beats the location of this Tentrr site. Belle Vista Farm is located only ten miles from the high-end ski resort of Stowe, Vermont and thirty miles from Smuggler’s Notch, another ski resort that offers a ton of year-round activities.

If you’d like to stay out of the crowds, you can have a canoe dropped off for you five miles away to paddle around the tranquil Green River Reservoir. If you’re staying close to your campsite, stroll up the mowed path to two Adirondack chairs or a hammock to admire the panoramic mountain views.
