A gorgeous place to camp, Bethel, New York, is the historic home of the Woodstock Festival; it is located in the White Lake region of the Catskills, a popular weekend destination for New Yorkers. The Tentrr Catskill Retreat sites are spread out over 100+ forested acres with a rambling brook and a bucolic lake. This enticing property is less than a two-hour trip from New York City.
For large groups, we recommend either the R2 at the Tentrr Catskill Retreat or Millennial Falcon at the Tentrr Catskill Retreat - each of these sites can accommodate up to sixteen campers. If you’re a Star Wars fan, you and your group will absolutely love these unique campsite no matter what your age. The extra-large decks at this site is great for groups of friends and family reunions. It’s also a creative destination for an overnight slumber birthday party or for local scouting groups. Each group site comes with two safari tents, two pop-up tents and incredible lake views. At the R2 site, the Safari tents are set up on the platform - at Millenial Falcon, the Canvas tents are on separate tie fighter platforms set behind the big platform leaving lots of room to hang out with friends and family.
If your group or club wants to camp at nearby sites on one property, then check out all the other single campsites at the Tentrr Catskill Retreat. Each one can house up to 6 campers - with 2 sleeping on the bed in the safari tent and up to 4 additional campers in the included pop-up tent.
During your stay, you can hike the property, explore nearby restaurants or see a concert at the Bethel Center for the Arts. Beyond concerts, Bethel Center for the Arts also hosts daytime events like yoga classes, wine festivals and unique seasonal events. Hogan’s Landing in Esperance, New York
Hogan’s Landing features two Tentrr sites that are just a 35-minute drive from Albany. Situated on a sprawling 250-acre property, these campsites are ideal for those that enjoy hiking, biking, and ATVs.
The Crystal Pond Backcountry Site can host up to thirty campers and is pet-friendly. We’d recommend this location if you’d prefer a more primitive experience, have your own tent and enjoy nature, as Crystal Pond is a family favorite for swimming and kayaking. (There are no platform tents at this site.) Visitors can opt to have port-o-potties delivered to their chosen site for the day, which can be particularly useful for large gatherings like scout trips or family reunions
If backcountry camping isn’t your thing, you can also enjoy Hogan's Landing Signature Site on this property. Perched at the top of a hill near Crystal Pond, this campsite features a platform Safari tent with a Queen bunk bed that sleeps up to 4 people, a pop-up tent for additional campers and a covered picnic area. This site also has running water, showers, and LED lights.
Visitors to Hogan’s Landing can enjoy a wide variety of fun activities during their stay including hiking, canoes, paddle boating, skeet shooting, horseshoes, a driving range, and more! Campers can also take a day trip to nearby Cooperstown, home of the Baseball Hall of Fame.
Group Camping Options at NY State Parks
Are you looking for group camping locations located less than two hours from New York City? You’re in luck! Taconic State Park and Lake Taghkanic State Park are two of the most popular state parks in New York, and Tentrr has several campsites available for groups in these state parks.
Taconic State Park
Taconic State Park is located along 16 miles of the Taconic Mountain Range, sharing a border with Massachusetts and Connecticut. The double campsite located at Rudd Pond offers campers a great view of the lake! Rudd Pond offers swimming and boat rentals on the weekends and holidays. It's also a great place to go fishing. This site can accommodate up to 12 campers - with 2 couples in the safari platform tents and up to 8 campers in the included pop-up tents.
Designated as one of America's "Last Great Places" by The Nature Conservancy, Taconic State park provides access to over 14,000 acres. In addition to hiking, boating and swimming, this park offers hunting in season. There is also a playground at Rudd Pond. Bash Bish Falls, Massachusetts' most famous waterfall, is accessible via a short trail from the park.
Tentrr's double site at Rudd Pond is a great destination for two families or a small group of friends or college students looking to camp out under the stars.
Lake Taghkanic Triple
Another great group Tentrr site is our Ancram-based Lake Taghkanic Lakeside Triple site.
Group campers can enjoy all of the natural beauty of Lake Taghkanic State Park in the Hudson Valley, complete with access to the large Lake Taghkanic, sandy beaches, tons of hiking trails, and more natural wonders. This campsite sleeps three couples or up to eighteen individuals with the use of the included pop-up tents.
The Triple Tentrr Site features 3 Safari-style platform tents in close proximity to each other - each with a Queen-sized bed. There are also 3 pop-up tents which can house up to 4 campers each, making the total capacity for this site 18 campers.
The recreational opportunities in Lake Taghkanic State Park are endless! This is a great spot for scout camping or family camping, as there are plenty of nature-focused activities available that are perfect for kids. There’s a swimming beach close to the campsite, as well as boat launch sites, paddleboarding and kayaking opportunities, and a pavilion available for rent. If you’re planning a large event, there is also a recreation hall available with showers. There are plenty of places to bike and hike in the park. For groups that want to take a less active approach to camping, there are nearby flea markets, farmer’s markets, and wineries.
