If you’re a fan of fishing or just want to plan a getaway of the shore, you’re in luck. There are a ton of excellent beach campsites available in Louisiana.

In this quick guide, we’ll break down some of Louisiana’s most popular camping spots on the shore, as well as a few best practices to follow in order to make your experience seamless and rewarding.

There are several very popular Louisiana beaches to choose from for a beachfront camping vacation. Tent camping in Louisiana is quite popular, and these beaches are the best places to set up your campsite.

Lakeview Park and Beach in Eunice, LA is located in the center of Cajun country. It’s a 42-acre campground that is clean, relaxed, and perfect for family and primitive camping.

Shelter

The beaches mentioned above have campsites and RV parking spots available for a small rental fee. There are few resorts that line these beaches, but that just adds to the camping appeal of Louisiana’s beaches. When planning a date for your camping trip, always make sure to double-check weather and tide conditions. It can be so much fun to set up a tent on the shore, but it can also be dangerous if proper precautions and planning are not implemented.

Louisiana also has seventeen state parks and two state forests where visitors can camp, and most of these parks offer lodges and cabins as well. Reservations must be made in advance. Enjoy live music on the weekends and freshwater swimming areas, as well as canoe rentals.

Lake Claiborne State Park is another massive park with 87 campsites and over 643 acres of land. Campsites have water and electricity, as well as picnic areas and cabins. If you want a glamping experience, this beach spot is a great one to check out.

Lake D’Arbonne State Park is perfect for those who love to fish. Spanning 15,250 acres, Lake D’Arbonne is home to beautiful woods, pine forests, and waters that are home to a bustling population of fish. Cabins are available and fees apply, even for primitive campsites.

South Toledo Bend State Park is heavily on the woods than the water, but you’ll still be able to enjoy the beachfront. South Toledo is a reservoir park complete with furnished cabins and basic amenities. Primitive campsites have water and electricity. This spot is very popular for bass fishing competitions, though there are other watersports available in the park as well. This beachfront park would be ideal for those who want to fish and enjoy nature, but don’t want to rough it in campsites without amenities.

Clothing

As with any location, it’s important to do some prior research on the weather conditions of the location you plan to visit when beach camping in Louisiana.

Louisiana is known for having warm, humid weather most of the year. The temperature dips a bit in the winter and storms, especially on the waterfront, are quite common. Dress accordingly. Luckily, most of Louisiana’s beaches are fairly smooth and sandy with little in the way of jagged rocks, so sandals are appropriate to wear. If you plan on swimming or fishing, though, closed-toe water shoes are recommended. Louisiana beach camping is a very relaxed and pleasant experience-- you wouldn’t want to step on a jagged rock while in the water!

Unless you plan on staying at a resort or in a rented cabin, you’ll be responsible for setting up your own camp kitchen. When looking for supplies to bring, consider buying wind-proof screens to keep sand out of your grill and food supplies. Campfires are permitted in most beach campgrounds in Louisiana, but sometimes the humidity can make building a firepit a bit difficult. Portable grills and overs may be a good idea.

Camping Accessories

Because Louisiana’s beaches are quite sandy, it may be a good idea to invest in a bottom mat for your tent. Most beaches in Louisiana are within walking distance of businesses and restaurants, so food and water is not that much of an issue. If you plan on fishing and cooking your own meals, however, ensure that you have adequate storage and coolers available to keep the beaches as clean as possible.

Louisiana really is an incredible place to go camping on the beach.
